Drones
Registration
As a renter of the drone, you are considered the drone's operator. According to EU drone law, operators of drones must register with the Federal Aviation Office.
For more information about the drone regulations per country, please check the relevant German, Dutch, or Spanish websites for information related to your jurisdiction.
You can also stay up to date with the latest drone regulations via The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) website.
Rules for the commercial and recreational use of drones
The following regulations apply to drone use in Germany. Please inform yourself of the local regulations in the country where you plan to fly a drone.
-
Please attach the plaque with the Grover name and address to the drone when flying.
-
The maximum altitude is 120 m, but you can receive an exemption from the national aviation authorities (“Die Landesluftfahrtbehörden”).
-
Drones must always remain in the visual line of sight (VLOS).
-
Drones must avoid interference with manned aircraft.
-
Hazardous flying is forbidden and includes the operation of drones in areas such as areas of police or rescue worker activity, crowds, main traffic routes, arrival and departure areas of airfields, nature reserves, industrial facilities, constitutional bodies, and federal and state authorities. Drones weighing more than 0.25 kg or of any weight that are also capable of receiving, transmitting, or recording optical, acoustic, or radio signals are prohibited from operation on residential property. Please note that failure to comply with these regulations will result in the loss of your insurance coverage. More information about aviation authorities and the detailed specifications of these regulations can be found in the new drone ordinance (Die neue Drohnenverordnung) and brief information on the use of unmanned aerial systems (Kurzinformation über die Nutzung von unbemannten Luftfahrtsystemen).
-
Please note that you must register DJI drones with the DJI App to use all capabilities required within the drone regulations, valid since October 2017.
Damages to drones
If your drone accidentally breaks and you’re protected with Grover Care, you only pay a service fee instead of the full repair costs to get a replacement device. The amount of the service fee depends on your Grover Care option.
We don't count small scratches and normal signs of use as severe damage and always remove them for free. Our example photos show the difference between normal signs of use and more severe damage.
We also won’t charge for any device errors or defects from the manufacturer. But please report device errors as soon as you notice them.
Please note that lost, stolen, or intentionally damaged products will not be covered by Grover Care. Please contact our support team immediately in case of theft or loss of your device.
Grover Care coverage after September 14, 2023: If you purchased Grover Care damage protection as an add-on, the protection percentage (either 50% or 90%) depends on your purchased coverage. For drones, you can purchase up to 90% damage protection (instead of up to 50% for older subscriptions). You can see the type of protection that applies to your drone by heading to My Tech > Grover Care on the Grover app or website.
Liability insurance for damages
All Grover drones have liability insurance for damages up to €3 million. Your deductible is €1,500, but customers in Germany can reduce this to €0 by completing the “Drone liability full protection.” You can purchase this from our insurance partner HDI:
Grover – Drone liability full protection (available only for customers in Germany)
Your drone is insured with us worldwide, excluding the U.S. and Canada. However, please check the regulations before using your drone outside of Germany, as some countries do not allow or restrict the use of drones.
E-bikes
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is included for free with your rental (only applicable once per rental contract). Maintenance costs will be 100% reimbursed if you have an official manufacturer repair shop invoice.
E-bike manufacturers recommend regular maintenance checks roughly every 1,000-2,000 kilometers. Since every manufacturer is different, here below you can find the specific recommendations for each brand:
If you notice your e-bike needs maintenance, please contact our support team first.
Damages and repairs
If your e-bike accidentally breaks and you’re protected with Grover Care, you only pay a service fee instead of the full repair costs to get a replacement device. The amount of the service fee depends on your Grover Care option. Note that you must first inform us about the damage.
-
If the issue is caused by the manufacturer, Grover will refund 100% of the repair costs.
-
If you caused the accidental damage, Grover will refund the repair amount minus the repair service fee for your level of Grover Care option.
For example, if your e-bike repair cost is €100:
- With Grover Care 50% coverage, we will reimburse you €100 - €50 = €50
- With Grover Care Basic (and fixed service fee of €60 for your subscription), we will reimburse you €100 - €60 = €40
After you have reported your damage claim, you can bring the damaged e-bike to an official service shop to get an estimation of the repair costs. You must send us this estimate. If the estimated repair costs are over €100, we'll need to give you prior approval before any repairs can be done.
Theft or loss
If your e-bike is stolen or lost, please contact our support team immediately. We'll provide you with the necessary information to file a police report.
Once you have filed the police report, we’ll ask you to pay the deductible fee of €199. This deductible fee is exclusively for e-bikes.

Drivers license
Since our scooters have a speed limitation of 20 km/h in Germany and 25 km/h in Spain and Austria, a driver's license is not required.
While wearing a helmet is not legally mandatory, we recommend doing so for your safety. You can find helmets for rental at Grover.
Insurance
Grover offers free liability insurance with Signal Iduna. If you need the documents for the liability insurance, please request them from our support team.
In Germany, e-scooters should have a general operating permit (the ABE, Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis). The operating permit documentation will be enclosed with your rental. If that’s not the case, please contact our support team so we can send it, as without this document, the e-scooter can’t be used on the road.

A new license plate will automatically be sent to your current address before expiration. Please keep your address up-to-date in your Account on the Grover website.
If you have any questions regarding the license plate or are still waiting to receive an updated one, please contact our support team.
